Below we have created boiler plate sets of filters organized by client types (i.e., architects, exhibit designers, etc).

You can copy and paste them into the yellow filters boxes that sit above the postings. Most of the filter sets will be pasted into the yellow filter box above the Full Test column. Occasionally, with RFP searches, a second filter is added to the yellow box above the Title column.

The list of filters uses roots, keywords and phrases. For your convenience they are listed alphabetically. Leads and News items are derived from the media and thus focus on the names of different venues rather than on products or services to be rendered which are used when searching for RFPs.

Saved Searches

This feature enables you to create and maintain your own search filters, saving you the time and trouble or reading through the daily bulletin or, even worse, going back through previously postings archived in the website. At the end of this document, we have included some examples of filters for possible use in the Full Text column. Feel free to copy and paste and modify to your needs.

How to create your first “Saved Search”

Go to the Home Page and select: Search all RFPs and Leads and News (just below the Featured Client image).

There is a useful help feature: Search ? In blue in the white section just above the yellow box above the Client column.

The yellow search boxes will contain whatever values you have previously typed in each of the six columns. If you wish to start over, first select Clear Search (top center)

Here’s an example of a typical saved search. The start date for the search is September 1, 2010. You are looking in the USA and Canada for exhibit design RFPs

Bulletin Date Place ? Type ? Client Title Full text

Once you have typed in the search parameters, as per the example above, type a short name for your “saved search” in the empty box just above the yellow filter box above Place ? Maximum size of name is 10 characters. Example: NA RFPS (short for North American RFPs). See

To save it, click on: Save search as -> (left of where you just typed in the name of your search).

You will see a confirmation message at the top of the screen: "NA RFPS" search saved.

Select Home and you will see that you have a new menu on the right sidebar below My Postings: “My searches”
Below you will see your new saved search: NA RFPS

From now on, you can click on this item and you will see all the postings that contain these search parameters. If you want to modify the search parameters, just click on NA RFPS, make changes in the yellow filter boxes and click the “Go” button (below Home) or hit the Enter Key.
If you want to delete the saved search, you can click on “Delete search” (just above the yellow box above the Bulletin date). You will need to delete a search once you have reached the limit of 10 saved searches and wish to add an 11th.

In many cases we create search filters for our clients. Since there is only room for 10 characters (including spaces) we typically use abbreviations or acronyms. Here are the most common ones we use.

NA = North America (US and Canada)
ROW = Rest of World (the Rest of the World minus the specified countries or states/provinces).
REG or RG or R = Regional
L or LD or LDS = LEADS
RFP or RF = RFPs (all types of requests including RFQs etc).

Suggestions re how to make best use of the six columns:

Bulletin date: For RFPs, since clients rarely give more than 8 weeks and often much less, make the start date no more than two months prior.
Thus if today’s date is October 3, 2010, you might want to start the search from August 3, 2010. Enter: >2010-08-03

Place ?: You can combine countries, states or provinces. Countries have a . In front of the short form: i.e., .ca (Canada) whereas States or Provinces have the . After the short form: i.e., ca. (California). There must be a space between each place. Example: .us .ca

You have 150 characters to work with, so feel free to combine countries, states or provinces. You will notice the the Header Place ? Is blue. This means it is a help as well as a header. Click on it to see all the codes for countries, states and provinces.

Type ? Select from the up/down arrows. Click on the Type ? To see the acronyms in full.


Client: Leave this blank. (your search will identify all the clients which match your search criteria)

Title: Leave this blank. (if you know this already, you don’t need our services. But once you have input your filters in “Full text” this is a good place to start looking for potential projects.

Full Text: This is where you will get the best bang for your research efforts.

As stated above, there is a useful Help for searching in the yellow box just above the Client column: Search ? In blue.

Tip:

“and” searches work like this.

Architect museum miami science (will give you all the postings that contain all these words) The space between each word or phrase represents “and”. Search works and phrases are not case sensitive.

To search for an exact phrase, put quotes around it (single or double). “exhibit design” will only find postings containing that exact phrase.

Exhibit design will also find that phrase but it will also find all the other postings which contain both words somewhere in the text.

OR searches: you can add a new search by adding OR (must be in caps). Example: “exhibit design” OR interp

Note there has to be a space each side of the OR. The search window can accommodate 150 characters of text. That’s a lot of different searches!

Note: the yellow search input window only allows you to see the first 32 characters. Then scrolling begins. Once you have finished inputting your search parameters in full text, click the Go button (below Home/press the Enter key). Scroll to the bottom of the screen. You will see at a glance your full text input displayed there.


Some additional considerations when creating your search parameters in Full Text.

If you are looking for relevant RFPs it is important to search on words and phrases that typically show up in RFPs that relate to what you have to offer. Thus “design services” would be a good example for architects. Also, as noted above, your start date should not go back more than about eight weeks.

Leads and News are different animals. We get this information by searching through the media and various news sources. Most often these stories talk about the big ticket item: the new museum, visitor center/centre, science center, casino, theme park, etc. Since Leads have a much longer shelf-life, you may wish to go back a year or two.

So instead of searching for what you do, instead search for the types of venues: i.e., museum OR science OR performing OR zoo OR planetarium

Very Important Search tip:

Our search engine does not know the different between a word and a string of characters. To get the best return on your search, try to come up with a meaning root. Example: architect will find architect, architects, architecture, architectural.

Cent will find center and centre

Interp will find: interpret, interpretation, interprets, interpreter, etc.
