Red Rock Creative is run by Diane Mitchell, an interpretive planner and writer with over twenty five years experience developing content for museums, attractions, outdoor signage in Scotland and Canada.
Diane works as a freelance consultant, living and working on the beautiful west coast of BC. With a background in geoscience and a passion for the natural world, combined with many years in the heritage sector, Diane is comfortable with both natural and heritage based projects.
Beginning in 1995, Diane worked for over eleven years at the National Museums of Scotland, followed by a further fourteen years at the Britannia Mine Museum near Vancouver, BC. Throughout her years at both museums she worked in curatorial and education roles, working on a variety of permanent and temporary exhibits and as content lead on several major capital projects, as well as a variety of curatorial/heritage projects.
Diane switched from employee to freelancer in 2021 after working on several sideline contracts working on exhibits including developing the interpretive plan for the acclaimed new Malahat Skywalk attraction on Vancouver Island, revamping interpretive signage for the award-winning Sea to Sky Gondola, and subcontracting as content developer to Panther Creative working on exhibits nationally.
Diane is available as both independent contractor and subcontractor to design firms.
Diane humbly recognizes that she is living and working on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Coast Salish Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation). In her life and work she endeavousr to treat the land and its peoples with respect and kindness, and to learn from the wisdom of the culture that has been here since time immemorial. |
